Welcome to the AAPT

Over the past three decades, the realization of the need for Urban and Regional Planning has become more evident. As a result, there is an increased demand for well-trained and skilled people to provide support and direction in a planning environment. The Planning Technician provides this support, with a broad range of skills, in capacities that vary from Cartographer to GIS Technician to Assistant Planner.

In September 1975, the Atlantic Association of Planning Technicians (AAPT) was formed to better the education and skills of the technician, meet the changing needs of the technician as well as employer, and provide a helping hand through encouragement to students in Atlantic Canada’s Planning Technician programs. Today the organization consists of 38 members representing New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland along with 6 Education Committee members.

Our newsletters will provide you with information regarding the latest developments in the Atlantic Canada area, what is going on at the planning schools, recent workshops, updates from local planning offices, and much more...

Meet the Executive of the AAPT. If you are looking for more information on a specific issue, start here. We have a representative in each Atlantic province to help answer your questions or voice your comments.

The AAPT hosts professional training workshops on a number of planning and technical topics. See what has happened at a recent workshop or when the next scheduled workshop will take place.

Would you like to join the AAPT? Find out how to apply on our application page.
